The people in Barroso keep resisting. And now we’re calling for solidarity so that people from these villages don’t feel that they are alone in resisting against the green energy mafia that is represented by the mining companies, invest funds, billionaires, politicians, police forces, and courts. The “Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente” (Portuguese Environment Agency) is meant to be responsible for defending the environment in Portugal, but it is an institution that has refused to hear more than 900 appeals against the implementation of the mine - to this day the most participated public consultation ever. The agency claims that the public interest is more important than the precautionary action interposed by the populations against the development of the mine in private and common land. We want them to know that the public interest is to defend the world agricultural heritage and pure, wild waters of Barroso as well as the region’s mountains with some of the most incredible biodiversity of the European continent.
